A schedule of the public comments received
is at Annex 7 and the comments are summarised in
Annex 8. The general theme underlying the majority
was for a public park extending over the whole or
major part of the planning area. The comments
received may be categorised under the following
headings :-
(a) Objection to planning by a special
committee thus creating a precedent
to by-pass the statutory Town
Planning Board.
(b)
Inadequate information given in the
published preliminary planning
proposals.
(c) The absence of opportunity for members
of the public to visit and view the
barracks area.
(a) The whole area should be preserved
and declared a public park which
would be of immense social value
in the city centre.
(e). If the whole of the area could not
be turned into a park, then as much
as possible of it should be zoned
