Mix McLaren's submission of 7 December, with Mr Murray's
subsequent minute of 11 December, outlining the general background to the immigration problem, and recommending
that instructions should be given to the Embassy in
Peking to raise the subject at a high level;
McLaren's submission of 27 November giving the back- ground to the problem of refugees from Vietnam who spent
some time in China before moving on to try to enter
Hong Kong illegally;
Peking telegrams numbers 916 and 917 reporting the out- come of Mr Craddock's approach to the Chinese Vice
Foreign Minister;
iv) Hong Kong telegram number 251 to Peking, stressing the concern in Hong Kong at the continued lack of response from the Chinese over the problem of the Vietnamese
refugees who had first settled in China.
