Since 1 January 1972-(when the numbers entering legally started escalating) to date, the total figure for legal arrivals excluing CPG passport holders is 212,556. 123, 219 of these, ie "Overseas Chinese and Non-Kwangtung residents who arriver after 30 June 1972, were landed on 12 months limitation of stay and should have applied periodically for extensions of stay, ---However, our records show that 11,361 of them have not done so and this suggests that they are no longer living in Hong Kong. The total number of legal arrivals holding CPG passports without visas for Hong Kong since 1 January 1972 is 19,168 of whom 13,111 arrived since 1 August 1975 without visas for their final destination and are presumed to have remained here. (No breakdown of figures of CPG passport holdens is available before August 1975).

Persons who enter legally from China and who are landed for a limited period, ie Overseas Chinese and Non- Kwangtung residents, must obtain Declarations of Identity and re-entry visas for Hong Kong if they wish to travel. During October the traffic in such persons was as follows:-
