The statistical returns for December 1977 are attached.

The daily average figure for legal immigration from China showed a marked increase to 97, compared with 82 in November. The total number of legal entrants from China in 1977 was 26,449, an increase of 29.3% on 1976 (20,453).

134 illegal immigrants from China were arrested during the month, compared with 118 in November. The total number of illegal immigrants arrested in 1977 was 1,815, an increase of 116.6% on 1976 (838).
4.
5 illegal immigrants from Macao were arrested during the month, compared with 22 in November. The total number of illegal immigrants arrested in 1977 was 117, compared with 43 in 1976.
