The incident was seen by a village representative at Sai Kung who informed the Police. After 3 days extensive search within the area, all the illegal immigrants were arrested by the Police. 17 were repatriated to China during the month and the remaining 13 were awaiting a decision.

1 body, believed to be that of an illegal immigrant drowned whilst attempting entry, was recovered from the sea in the western sector during the month.

The cumulative total of illegal immigrants arrested by or surrendered to the Police and the Army since 1 January 1962 is now 31,579. The yearly totals are as follows:-

The figure of illegal immigrants interviewed and accepted as having evaded controls since 30 November 1974 is 16,321. The ratio of . interceptions against evasions is now 1:4.05.

Macao

5 illegal immigrants were referred to this department by the Marine Police during the month. 2 were repatriated to Macao and the other 3 are still being processed. In addition, 5 cases where the illegal immigrants were arrested in November were finalized in December; 3 were removed to Macao and 2 were allowed to stay in Hong Kong.

The snake-head who had assisted 16 Macao illegal immigrants to enter Hong Kong on 27 November was sentenced to one year's imprisonment at Central Magistracy on 28-12-77.

Since November 1975, the total of illegal immigrants interviewed and accepted as having entered from Macao is 1,609. Of these 169 were arrested, 1,188 surfaced through ROP claiming illegal entry from Macao and 252 surfaced through ROP falsely claiming illegal entry from elsewhere.
