APPENDIX 5 C
(a translated copy)
Mr. Colvyn Hayę,
Acting Director of Education,
Education Department,
Hong Kong,
19th May,
198
Dear Mr. Haye,
When the school authorites of Precious Blood Golden Jubilee Secondary School unreasonably punished 7 students of the school (on 1st May), you and your Department evaded responsibility by showing that you would not intervene. However, you very soon contradicted yourself. Just by listening to the one-sided report of the school authorities, you issued a statement (on 8th May) giving full support to the action of the school, In so doing, you have only shown prejudice and rashness. You have angered the public
and you have also caused our teachers, students and parents to petition His Excellency .the Governor and the Most Rev. Bishop u for a normalization of the learning conditions in the school.
On 14th May, irrespective of the suggestion made by the public, you ordered the closure of the school. Instead of carrying out your duties by listening to our demand, you have acted against the wish of our parents, students and teachers and have ignored the well-being of Ithousands of students by using such a high-handed policy in suppressing our concern and love for the school. The closure order is completely against any educational principles.
We raise our strong protest against your Department. You are responsible for all consequences. We will persevere in fighting for the re-opening of the school.
Yours faithfully,
(signed by representatives of
teachers, parents and students)
