APPENDIX 4
Lau's letter of apology to the teachers. (A Translated Copy!
Dear Colleagues,
Let's come down to business right away. On 19th Oct., it was published in newspapers that there was rumour about
3 teachers of the P.B.G.S.S. being members of the Revolutionary Marxist League, On the next day, confirmation coming from the Police was published in the papers: "Past activities of the 5 teachers involved showed that they were closely connected with the RML. # After analysing the details carefully, I found the matter had become very seious, I must apologize for causing such grave consequences, because I am the writer of the letter signed " A Reader " which was sent to the newspapers and published on the 19th.
Therefore,
The cause of this incident was as follows: After the domestic science voucher incident, 6 to 7 teachers had frequent contact with Miss Hilda Kwan, the Principal, hoping to gather wore information, On 15th Oct., under Miss Kwan's instruction, Miss Lo, the Deputy Principal and I went to report to the Superrisom on the situation in the school. It was under such circumstances that I was gradually influenced by the prejudice of the Principal and Supervisor against you. when I, together with several other teachers, learnt from the Principal that the five of you are blacklisted by the Special Branch and that among you 5, 3 are members of the R.M.L., We felt very much annoyed. We thought Miss Kwan's present policy was really designed før the well-being of the P.B.G.J.S.S. Moreover, the Principal ppiited out at that time that it was not convenient for her to make public this information and that she hoped we would do in order to inform the public of the truth. But she xxi added immediately that we must not disclose that she was the source of the information, or it would cause a lot of trouble, On the other hadd, LEUNG Sėn-ling also urged me to write to the newspapers in the capacity of a reader. She said she would write a second letter in the capacity of a past teacher of the school, pointing out your queer behaviour in the old and new financial incidents. As a result of their proposal, I wrote the newspapers in the hope that the future sitų ation in the P.B.GTS.S. would be normalized. Afterwards, the Principal was extremely concerned about whether that letter had been written and sent out.
TO
The information contained in my letter had come from the Principal, who disclosed it in front of several teachers. She had repeatedly stressed that the information was absolutely true as it had come from a senior official in the Government. And she had repeatedly told us not to reveal this point to outsiders,
Later, after the publishing of the two pieces of Inews, I felt the intensification of the gravity of the matter because:
1. the police had interfered.
2.
The public had got a wrong conception of the Golden Jubilee incident from the news published, and this would isolate the teachers and students of the entire school by putting false charges on them,
3. The Principal said to me on three separate occasions on 19th Oct., 27th Oct., and 6th Nov. that she was making contact with other schools for transferring me to another secondary school, and I feel insulted as I consider this a bribe,
Passing the whole incident in review, I must admit that I should not 'have disclosed so irresponsibly unconfirmed information. I express my deepest regret for causing such consequences through my inadvertence in having been made used of by others.
Yours sincerely, LAU Tsz-lim,
