Investigators from the Education Department came to the school. The domestic

science taacher requested a meeting with them but Miss Kwan refused to comply.

38 Three old teachers who had been in the school for four years resigned from the

school on October 11, Uctober 12, and October 15, respectively. A teacher re-

ceived an oral warning because he had informed the students the resignation of

On October 13, 1977, Form 2D held a class meeting during the recess to discuss a basketball match with form 2C. A Vice-principal rushed to to dissose the class

meeting on the ground that they had not obtained permission from the School in

advance for such a meeting. The young girls were then locked out of their classroom.

The event led to great emotional upstir among the students as other classes learnt

of it.

On October 14, 1977, after returning from their physical education lesson at

the playground, some Form 4A students found that their bags had been searched,

led to an argument with a teacher. In asking some teachers to leave the

to help "suppress" the students. A little later, she summoned the police. The

school bookkeeper was dismissed.

Between October 17 and 22, 1977, letters app ared in several Chinese newspapers

accusing some teachers of being members of a local Trotskyist organisation, and

said that the information came from a Current Affairs Committee of one of the

post-secondary institution Student Union.

The Current Affairs Commitees of the Student Unions of Hong Kong University and

Chinese University of Hong Kong issued statements denouncing the source.

The event led to vigorous reactions from the post-secondary students eversince.

Wall posters appeared in the Universities calling for revealing the oppressions

suffered by the students and teachers of Volden Jubilee School.

Between October 18 and October 22, readers' letters written by a group of old
