Two teachers, Mr. Chan Chung-ling and Mr. Cheng Yin-cheung, entered
school to see the Principal in her office.
Meanwhile the students and other teachers also entered
the school and waited for Chan and Cheng in the covered playground.
The suspended students were only allowed to stay penind the school
gates but could not go in further. Mr. Chan and Mr. Cheng came out
of the Frincipal's office at one o'clock, ten minutes before the
school finished. They told the students that the Principal still
refused to allow the four suspended students back to classes, So the
students decided to stay in the covered playground for the last ten
minutes in support of the four schoolmates.
when the bell rang at 1.10 p.m., the Form 1 students
innediately left the school under the supervision of the teachers who
did not join the sit-in. Most of the Form 2 to Form 4 students who
stayed at school joined their schoolmates in the covered playground.
In view of the fact that some of the students were not at the Caritas
House, Mr. Chan related what had happened in those past few days.
After that, the students discussed among themselves and came to the
conclusion that they would write to the Bishop asking for the dismissal
of their principal, Hilda Kwan, As the suspension would end on Sunday,
the teachers asked all the students to resume classes on Monday (May 15)
and wait patiently for the answer from the Bishop. The students agreed.
At 2.30 p.m., the teachers and students left the school for an open
forum organized by the Hong Kong Federation of Students held at the
Students' Union Hall of Hong Kong University. The parents were informed
by the teachers after the forum that classes would resume on Monday.
This decision was reported in many newspapers on Saturday (May 13),
such as the south China Morning Post and the Standard.
6. Normal lesson conducted after the sit-in
On Saturday, May 13, normal lesson was conducted for the
Form 4 students who took the Art subject from 9.00 a,n. to noon. In
the lesson, the students were taught now to design and make a file.
