6. The dismissal of the school book-keeper in the 'Domestic Science
Claims incident"
On Oct 7, it was found that alterations had been made
on expense-claims submitted by the schoul's Domestic Science
teacher. The matter was is uncovered by both the Domestic
Science teacher, Miss Fok, and the school book-keeper, when
Miss Fok asked to check the claims she had made and found the
figures altered. The total amount gained from the alterations
was just $10 more than her original claim. Then the book-keeper
corrected the figures altered in the presence of Miss Fok. And
both of them immediatè‡y asked to see the principal, but she
was not available.
át 4 p.m. that day, some teachers finally contacted the
principal and asked ner to investigate the matter, but were told
the matter could not be discussed unless the book-keeper was
present.
On Oct. 10, officials from the Education Department came
to the school to investigate the allegation at the request of
the principal. The book-keeper was questioned in the accounts-
room and she was blamed for correcting the figures altered.
However, the officials neither questioned nor cared who altered
the claims. The Domestic Science teacher offered herself to
help the investigation but was refused admittance into the ac-
counts-room.
