assistant newly employed took pictures of students inside the premises despite the objection of the students, conversations were taped, "black lists" of students compiled, the police were called at the disposal of the Principal to threaten the students regardless of their feelings and parents were asked to keep a strict hand over the children who wrote letters to the school asking for fair treatment. The old girls were not allowed to visit the school and the Alumni Association was not allowed to be established.
At the same time Miss Kwan had been threatening to get rid of the old teachers not only did she pick on the old teachers and humiliate them but also she mounted a smear campaign against the old teachers by inducing some of the teachers to falsely claim the three teacher representatives who were elected by all the teachers in the school last year over the financial irregularities were members of the "Revolutionary Marxist League", a local Trotskyite organisation.
Despite the persecution they suffered in school, the teachers and students, supported by the parents and other organisations continued to demand the disclosure of the investigation of the financial irregularities since the case clearly shows that Sister Leung was only a scape-goat and the money embezzled had been siphoned to the account of the Precious Blood Order.
On the other hand, the teachers and students had been trying to voice their grievances through all sorts of channels. As communication with the Principal was completely lacking, students wrote to the Principal, the management committee and the education department over the school matters but their opinions were completely ignored. Between October and March the teachers wrote on three occassions to the Management Committee and on all three occassions the Management Committee did not deign to reply. This is the same Management Committee on which the Senior Education Officer serves. The Supervisor of the School also declined to see the teachers, not even for five minutes. When the teachers approached the Professional Teachers Union and other educational bodies to mediate the situation in the School, they became aware of the fact that the school was under the direct control of the Principal Miss Kwan and the Education Department. The teachers also sought help from the religious bodies and the Catholic Bishop of Hong Kong but they got no response from the Bishop either.
After the unannounced return of 320,000 Hong Kong dollars to the School account from the Precious Blood Order, the persecution of the old teachers and students intensified. Seven warning letters were given to the teachers, four students were suspended, three were given warning letters and some Form Two students were assaulted by the non-teaching staff when they went back to school for tests.
More incredibily when the President of the Professional Teachers Union was invited by the parents to help, he was given a warning letter by the Education Department.
As all legitimate channels were blocked and the unanimous desire in the parents, teachers and students to find a thorough solution to rectify the adnormal and unreasonable condition in school, the parents, teachers and students petitioned the Governor and Bishop to demand the dismissal of the Principal on May 9th.
Out of the expectation of the parents, teachers, students and the citizens of Hong Kong, the Bishop remained silent, leaving the parents, teachers and students outside waiting for a chance to meet him. The Bishop's refusal to receive the victims led to the second sit-in. After waiting for four days and three nights outside the Bishop's house, four priests offered to listen to the grievances of the parents, teachers and students and the Bishop agreed.
Having the chance to be heard of their grievances and responding to the educational bodies call to resume classes, all the teachers and students
