The Education Department accepts that it needs to play a more positive role in the guidance of schools and teachers and will be submitting specific proposals shortly.

Co-operation with the ICAC Corruption Prevention Department is being pursued vigorously, and consultation with the Schools' Councils on practical measures is in hand,

It is proposed to introduce Education Regu- lations that will give the force of law to certain portions of the Codes of Aid.

The Education Department will approach the tertiary institutions, with a view to substantially increasing their involvement in the training of school administrators.

The proposal to introduce a distinction between suspension and closure of a school, with responsi- bility for the latter removed from the Director of Education to the Governor in Council, is accep- table in principle to the Director; but the concept needs further consideration and definition.
