they were warned or chased away by some parish priesta.

On June 20, 1977, 800 students signed a joint letter to the Director of Education,
pointing out that the teachers were not involved in the organization of che sit-in.
On the same day, the Director of Education refused to withdraw the warning letters.
He has never replied to the joint letter signed by the 800 students.

The Acting Principal promised before all the teachers that she would register it
immediately.
23 On July, 5, Mr. Szeto Wah of the Professional Teachers' Union wrote to the Education
Department for the first time demanding an explanation for the warning letters issued
to teachers. Letters making similar demands were sent on September 16 and October 25,
1977. Replies to the letters from the Education Department were that "no further
information can be added to the warning letters."

On July 9, 1977, the Deputy Director of Education, Mr. Haye, gave a well-publicized
speech in which he hastended to assure religious and other sponsors of education
that the Government appreciates their work. In so doing, Mr. Haye appeared to be dis-
crediting those who had levelled charges at religious bodies, saying that "it has
become fashionable to sneer at the concrete acheivements of religious and other
sponsors of eduction" and condemning 'smear campaigns.

29 On July 18, the Hong Kong Observers asked Mr. Topley for the first time in an open
letter to produce evidence for issuing the warning letters. Similar letters were
published in newspapers later.
36 On August 1, 1977, the Bishop appointed Miss Hilda Kwan as the new Principal of the
school, add a new School Council was formed.
Miss Hilda Kwan is a secular nun of the Diocese (hence she is directly responsible
to the Bishop of Hong Kong Bishop John Wu).
A few teachers who were nuns of the Precious Blodd
Ordeɣresigne
erresigned from the school,
and a few of the nuns of the Precious Blood Order, inclduing some of the former
teachers, left the Precious Blood Order later.
A nun of a different order, Sr. Lorraine Turcotte, was appointed the Supervisor.
