Admission of Pupils

All schools shall maintain a system of records giving details of each

pupil in a form approved by the Director of Education. Such record cards shall

give particulars of pupils entering and leaving the school.

Dismissal of Pupils

(a) Dismissal of a pupil solely on grounds of inadequate academic performance

should not be necessary. If, however, it is considered necessary to

dismiss a pupil on grounds of inadequate academic performance, the prior approval of the Director should be obtained.

(b) A pupil shall not normally be permitted to remain in school after the

end of the school year during which his 20th birthday occurs unless

he is following a course at post-Certificate of Education level.

No pupil shall be dismissed from an aided secondary school except on the following grounds:

(a) non-payment of fees;

a criminal or grave moral offence, or serious breach of school

discipline;

(c) medical or other grounds approved by the Director.

All schools shall keep a record of pupils dismissed, showing the grounds for each

such dismissal.

In any case where the dismissal of a pupil is contemplated, a warning

letter shall be sent to the parent or guardian and the Director shall be informed.

In cases of criminal or grave moral offence or serious breach of school discipline a pupil may be suspended from attendance at the school, prior to dismissal.

Attendance, Terms and Holidays

An attendance register shall be kept for each form and shall be made

up within one hour of the commencement of each school session.

The principal of an aided secondary school shall keep a daily summary

showing the attendance of each form.

Schools shall normally meet twice a day for morning and afternoon

The school hours shall be as approved by the Director. If the time devoted to religious knowledge and other religious observances exceeds 11⁄2 hours

per week, such excess time shall be additional to the normal school hours.

No pupil shall be compelled to attend religious instruction or to

participate in any religious observances and separate provision shall be made for all pupils not wishing to attend such activities. All pupils shall be

informed of this requirement at the commencement of each school year.
