I write to express my grave concern that the Harbour Police in the Crown Colony of Hong Kong continue to turn refugees that arrive from South East Asia (Laos, Cambodia, and Vietnam) by small boat back to the Sea to defend themselves come what may. I fully realize that the number of refugees that seek entry through legal and illegal means into Hong Kong increases every day and that the problems involved are insur- mountable, however, it seems to me that the present action in this regard is inhumane at the very least. Surely these peoples have suffered enough without subjecting them to more suffering and probable death. It does not seem like the action of a freedom loving people like the English. If it had not been for England the world would still be largely uncivilised to- day and in fact theworld would be in better shape now if England had con- trol of more of it. That is one reason that the actions regarding the refugees belies the English spirit.
While I am on the subject may I also express my concern over the fact that it is a prime centre for the trafficing in Endangered Species and plays a large part in the trade of Ivory from the Endangered African Elephant (Loxodontis Africana).
I thank you for your kind attention.
Yours most sincerely,
J. Scott Douglasy
