40. RATES OF UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT
The standard weekly rate if £12.60 with an increase of £6.30 a week for any one adult dependant and £2.40 a week for each child.
The weekly rate payable to young persons (ie over 15 but under 18) without dependants is £6.30.
41.
DISQUALIFICATIONS
A person may be disqualified for a period of up to 6 weeks if he;
leaves a job voluntarily without just cause or loses
a.
it through industrial misconduct; or
b.
refuses a suitable job when offered; or
C.
fails to take reasonable steps to try for a job when told about one.
There is also a disqualification if the person has lost employment through stoppage of work due to a trade dispute at his place of employment.
42. HOW LONG MAY UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT BE DRAWN?
In the first place for 78 days (not counting Sundays).
No further benefit
is then payable until after a subsequent period of 13 weeks work.
43. HOW AND WHEN TO CLAIM UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFIT
On the first day of unemployment the claimant should register for work at the Central Employment Exchange.

NON-CONTRIBUTORY RETIREMENT PENSION
Retirement pensions were payable on the 3 October 1960, as a transitional measure to British Subjects or other persons ordinarily, resident in Gibraltar who were insured under the Social Insurance Scheme and the wives or widows of such persons, and who failed to qualify for old age pensions under the Social Insurance contributory scheme.
The conditions for entitlement to a retirement pension are:-
(i) The claimant must have attained the age of 65
(60 in the case of a woman).
(ii). He must have been over 55 years of age (50 in the case of a woman) on 3 October 1955.
(iii) He must not be entitled to an old age pension
under the Social Insurance scheme.
(iv) He must have retired from regular employment.
(v) He must have a satisfactory employment record,
ie an average of 40 weeks employment a year since the beginning of 1953.
Notwithstanding the above conditions, no person is entitled to Retirement
