12. WHAT IS DEATH BENEFIT?

If the accident or disease results in death, death benefit is payable to the dependants of the dead person.

13. WHAT DEPENDANTS MAY CLAIM DEATH BENEFIT?

The widow or widower and children of the deceased person may claim death benefit. Someone may also claim on behalf of any orphan.

If the deceased left no widow or widower or children certain other dependent relatives of the deceased may claim.

The main conditions are that the dependant must have been residing with the deceased at the time of his death and must have been maintained by him:

14. WHAT ARE THE RATES OF DEATH BENEFIT?

(i) A widow or widower has a choice of a pension of £9.50 a week or a gratuity of £4320. If there are children the beneficiary will receive in addition £1.96 a week for the first child and £1.26 a week for the second child.

(ii) Orphans receive a pension of £4.30 per week.

(iii) Parents receive either a pension of £4.30 or £6.50 per

week or a gratuity of £490 depending on the extent to which they were maintained by the deceased person. (iv) Other adult dependants receive a gratuity of £490 divided

between them.

15. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

The benefits under the Social Insurance scheme are:-

Maternity Benefit

Widow's Benefit (including increases for dependent children) Widower's Pension (including increases for dependent children)

Guardian's Allowance

Old Age Pension (including increases for dependent wife or husband

and children)

Death Grant

Unemployment Benefit (including increases for dependent adult and

children)

16.

GENERAL QUALIFYING CONDITIONS FOR FULL HIGHER RATES OF BENEFITS

In addition to the qualifying contribution conditions for benefits, detailed

addit hereinafter, payment of benefits at the full higher rate depends on whether the insured person or beneficiary has been:-

a. ordinarily resident in Gibralter; or

insured under the Social Insurance Ordinance,

for at least 104 weeks in the aggregate since the 2 July 1970.
