The amount of the rebate or allowance is governed by three main factors, the tenant's gross income (and his wife's), the size of his family and his rent (excluding rates and services). The table below gives a few examples of the amounts of rent rebate or rent allowance which apply at different levels of weekly income.
Many different kinds of homes can qualify, including a permanent caravan home if the caravan itself is rented, as distinct from the site. But since so many different factors have to be taken into account, anyone who thinks they might possibly qualify for help should get in touch with their local council at once. This applies particularly to tenants of furnished accommodation. People with relatively high incomes can get help. It is important that tenants should not make the final decision themselves.
