Hospital treatment allowance: where the claimant is in hospital receiving treatment for the injury or disease. Rate payable: will raise benefit to the 100 per cent rate.

Unemployability supplement: where as a result of the injury or disease the claimant is permanently unfit for work. An allowance is also payable according to age when incapacity started (see “Invalidity allowance” on page 17) but unemployability supplement cannot be paid with special hardship allowance or sickness or invalidity benefit or retirement or widow's pension. Rate payable: £17.50 a week with increases for dependants at the invalidity benefit rates.

How to claim

Claim forms are available from local social security offices and claims can be made when injury benefit stops, or, if injury benefit is not being paid, as soon as the first signs of disablement appear.

If injury benefit is still being paid towards the end of the 26 weeks the local office will invite a claim. If a claim form has not been received by the end of 26 weeks the claimant should get in touch with the local office.

Industrial death benefit

Industrial death benefit is a pension, allowance or gratuity paid to a dependant of someone who dies as a result of an industrial accident or disease.

Amounts payable

A widow living with her husband, or being maintained by him, at time of his death:
