Book III Chapter II : Weekly Rest periods

Article 91, Right to weekly rest day

(a)

It shall be the duty of every employer whether operating... for profit or not, to provide each of his employees a rest period of not less than twenty-four (24) consecutive hours after every six (6) consecutive normal work days.

(b)

The employer shall determine and schedule the weekly rest day of his employees, subject to collective agreement and to such rules and regulations as the Secretary of Labour may provide. However, the employer shall respect the preference of employees as to their weekly rest day when such preference is based on religious grounds.

SINGAPORE

Employment Act, 1968

Section 36

1.

Every employee shall be allowed in each week a rest day of one whole day which shall be Sunday or such other day as may be determined from time to time by the employer:

Provided that the employer may substitute any continuous period of thirty hours as a rest day for an employee engaged in shift work.

THAILAND

Labour Protection Law, 1972

Clause 7

The employer shall arrange for the employee to have at least one day holiday for one week's work, and the interval between each weekly holiday shall not be longer than six days. The employer and employee may agree in advance to fix any day as a weekly holiday.

In respect of hotel or transportation operation, forestry work or work performed in desolate area, fishery, fire-fighting work and other work to be prescribed by the Ministry of the Interior, the employer and some or all employees may agree in advance that weekly holidays be cumulative and be fixed at certain days, but to be within the period of not longer than four consecutive weeks.
