Remarks
The fixing of any minimum wages, whether national, regional or industrial, is not considered necessary.
Notification of the Ministry of the Interior (1972) prescribing minimum wages.
A Wage Committee comprising a Chairman and 9 to 15 other members appointed by the Ministar of the Interior. Employers and employees should each be represented by at least 3 members. A momber may hold office for two years and is eligible for re- appointment. The Committee shall consider and submit proposals to the Government to fix a National Wage Policy and a minimum wage which an employee should receive and be able to subsist by himself. The Wage Committee may appoint Sub- committees and co-opt experts for advice.
The minimum wage is not applicable to employees in the public sector, agriculture, fisheries, forestry and animal husbandry. Because of enforcement difficulties it is generally felt that the existence of this statutory minimum could only bring about some marginal improvement in wages for low-pay workers. The intention is to expand the scope of application gradually to the entire country.
