Table 5 Night work for women and young persons

Restrictions on night work
Young persons aged 14 and 15 are only permitted to work between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Women and young persons aged 16 and 17 are permitted to work between 6 a.m. and 8 p.m. or up to 9 p.m. when employed on overtime.
Women and young persons aged 16 and 17 employed in a scheme of shift work may, with the prior approval of the Commissioner for Labour, work up to 11 p.m. Subject to certain conditions, exemption may also be granted to permit woman supervisors and woman workers in selected industrial undertakings to work on the night shift.
No child under 14 shall be employed in or for any undertaking between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m.
woman shall be employed between 10 p.m. and 5 a.m. in factories and workplaces except with the approval of the Governor-General.
No young person aged 14-17 shall be permitted to work between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. except for reasons of public interest or welfare.
