An individual Disputes Unit (functionally similar to the Labour Courts in ralaysia and our Labour Tribunals) is set up in the Ministry of Labour to hear all statutory claims under the Employment Act made by non-unionised em-loyees. Decisions made by this Unit may only be challenged in the High Court. Trade disputes which cannot be settled by conciliation and deadlocks in collective bargaining are dealt with by the tripartite Industrial Arbitration Courts. (The latter's functions also include the registration and certification of collective agreements, the interpretation, setting aside, variation and enforcement of the terms of collective agreements and the settlement of trade disputes by informal mediation.)

In 1976 a total of 2,106 disputes were handled by the Industrial Relations Department of the Ministry of Labour. Of these disputes, 4 were strike cases and 10 led to minor work stoppages.

Normal labour relations do not exist under
