I enclose a copy of a letter I have received from John Stewart about a visit of yours to China.
It was a terribly good dinner at Churchill, and I may well have said anything during it, but I am afraid that if I did give the impression that I thought it would be a good idea to go to Peking to reason with the Chinese Government about the role of communist trade unions in Hong Kong, I only did so because I was far gone in my cups. I do not think anything of the sort would be at all a good idea as it would certainly give rise to great misunderstanding in Peking.
I can, however, thoroughly sympathise with you for thinking up any excuse to visit that fascinating place.
I look forward to seeing you in March/April.
