1. I au directed by the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs to invite you to carry out further studies on labour relations in Hong Kong in order to finalize your paper entitled "An Interim and Provisional Review" and produce more dafin-te and detailed suggestions for action.
1.
You will carry out the study in whatever way seems appropriate to you. However, I am assuming that:
(a)
you "ourself will need to visit Hong Kong twice for about 5 weeks in all;
(b) to suitably qualified academics appointed by you will need to visit Hong Kong for 4 weeks each;
(c) a research assistant from the Hong Kong University
will be ruquired to work under your direction.
I an authorized to offer the following terms of remuneration, eta:
(a) for yourself, an honorarium of HK$ 12,800 plus subsistence for a 5-week stay in Hong Kong at the current rate applicable to senior British officials on short stay in Hong Kong. This would amount to approximatoly HK$7,900. A further amount of HK$ 1,200 will also be paid to cover incidental expenses, e.g. entertaiment, telephone calls, books, postage, eto;
(b) for sach of your two academic colleagues an honorariua HK.6,400 for their 4-weeks' work. They will also, receive HK$800 each for incidental expenses and subsistence payment for 4 weeks at the rate paid to sen..or British officials;
