30. At a meeting immediately after the close of the new Congress the General Council elected Mr Tom Jackson, UPW, as their Chairman for the next 12 months.
31. One remarkable fact to come to light during the Congress was that the TUC had managed to gain a further 350,000 members since Congress met in 1977. Membership now stood at 11.865 million increase of nearly 2 million since 1973.
