Introduction

This Convention has not been applied to Hong Kong. A declaration of "decision reserved" was registered by the I.L.0. on 9th April 1968.

The following is a detailed review of the Convention which must be read in conjunction with the I.L.0. Recommendation concerning hygiene in commerce and offices.

II.

General

There is at present no legislation specifically applying the provisions of the Convention in Hong Kong. However, the following Ordinances and Regulations made thereunder give effect to certain health and sanitation requirements stipulated under the Convention

(a) the Building (Planning) Regulations, made under the Buildings

Ordinance, Chapter 123, contain provisions covering the minimum requirements of ventilation, lighting and ceiling height of offices;

(b) the Building (Standards of Sanitary Fitments, Plumbing, Drainage

Works and Latrines) Regulations, made under the Buildings Ordinance, Chapter 123, contain provisions covering standards of sanitary fitments, plumbing, drainage works and latrines;

(c) the Public Health and Urban Services Ordinance, Chapter 132,

contains provisions covering general sanitation and cleanliness;

(a) the Public Cleansing and Prevention of Nuisances By-laws 1972

made under the Public Health and Urban Services Ordinance, Chapter 132, contain provisions covering prevention of nuisances in streets, common parts of buildings and public places, disposal of house refuse and trade refuse;
