DRAFT STATEMENT BY THE UK FOR PUBLICATION
The Government of the United Kingdom reaffirm that since 1950
they have have recognised the Government of the People's Republic
of China as the sole legal Government of China. The Air Services
Agreement negotiated by the two Governments in 1973 provides
for scheduled services on the trunk route between the People's
Republic and the United Kingdom which are to be operated by the
State airlines of the two countries. The existing services on
the regional route between Hong Kong and Taiwan, however, are
operated by private airlines under an agreement between the
airlines concerned.
