Adrian Swire sent you a copy of the letter that he wrote to John Steele on 15 November, stressing the importance for Cathay Pacific Airways of avoiding any action with the Chinese People's Republic which might provoke an adverse reaction from Taiwan and thus damage CPA's earnings from services to and through Taiwan.
I have held this in abeyance for a few days in the hope that we might have some definite news from the Chinese front which would enable us to give Adrian a reassuring reply. But the clock has ticked on and I feel that we ought to get something off fairly soon, even if it does not give Cathay Pacific the comfort for which they are looking.
Accordingly I have it in mind to suggest to John Steele that he might reply along the attached lines. I shall be grateful for
