THE FIRST TRIPARTITE (AIR INDIA/CATHAY PACIFIC AIRWYS/BRITISH AIRWAYS) MEETING WAS HELD IN BOMBAY AT THE END OF LAST MONTH TO FINALISE DETAILS OF THE POOLING CONDITIONS COVERING THE
RESUMPTION OF CPA SERVICES TO INDIA W.E.F. 1 OCTOBER, 1978.
DURING THE COURSE OF THE MEETING AN APPARENT ANOMALY WAS
DISCOVERED CONCERNING CPA'S CAPACITY LIMITATION THROUGH BOMBAY.
PARA 3 OF THE CMU OF 13 MAY 1977 PROVIDES FOR 440 SEATS, WHEREAS PARA (E) OF THE TRIPARTITE AIRLINE UNDERSTANDING OF THE
SAME DATE PROVIDES FOR A MINIMUM OF THREE SERVICES A WEEK WHICH FOR CPA USING 8707 AIRCRAFT (WITH A 154 SEAT CONFIGURATION)
WOULD MEAN 462 SEATS.
YOU WILL RECALL THAT DURING THE CONSULTATIONS BETWEEN OUR TWO
GOVERNMENTS LAST MAY IT WAS ENVISAGED THAT CPA MIGHT OPERATE
THROUGH DELHI AS WELL AS BOMBAY, BUT THAT WHATEVER ROUTE OR ROUTES
WERE ULTIMATELY DECIDED UPON THE CAPACITY THROUGH BOMBAY WOULD BE
LIMITED. MY RECOLLECTION IS THAT IT WAS AGREED THAT THIS LIMITATION SHOULD BE EITHER ON TRISTAR (286 SEATS) AND ONE B707 (154 SEATS)
