UK/NEW ZEALAND AIR SERVICE NEGOTIATIONS
1.
When I had lunch to-day with Swires I asked Mr John Browne about Cathay Pacific's interest in flying to Auckland. He said that for the moment they were content to turn their service round at Port Moresby. They did not want to do any thing which could upset British Airways rights across the Tasman Sen. They thought that the New Zealand demands were excessive and had been surprised at the poor presentation which New Zealand officials had made of the New Zealand case at the last round

of talks. They had seemed simply to be mouthing a brief and had left most of the running to Air New Zealand.
