Secretary for the Environment,

THE HONG KONG HERITAGE SOCIETY,
HONG KONG.
5th November, 1977.
Dear Sir,
As you are aware, we petitioned H. E. the Governor on the 29th
July, 1977, regarding the preservation of the K.C.R. station buildings.
The Petition also brought up the question of the development of the
Tsim Sha Tsui tip.
We are disturbed that up to the present time, apart from letters
of receipt in July and August, there has been no indication as to whether
our Petition has been considered by His Excellency, and when we may expect
a reply.
Our Petition raised many points, including some of a technical
nature which would affect Town Planning and Transport Department decisions
but, we understand, neither the Town Planning nor Transport Departments
have been asked to comment on our Petition. In the meantime we have been
informed that design work on the proposed new Cultural Complex is proceeding
and that shortly, the Consultants for the proposed K.C.R. extension to
Tsim Sha Tsui will be briefed.
▲ decision on the future of the Tsim Sha Tsui peninsula is therefore
very urgently required to avoid further abortive work and cost to the
taxpayer.
We would be grateful if you will kindly confirm whether or not the
relevant Government Departments referred to above have been consulted, and
when we may expect an answer to our Petition.
It is increasingly evident from our campaign to collect signatures
in support of preservation of the present K.C.R. buildings that very mary
ordinary Hong Kong people positively wish the buildings to stay. This has
been made even clearer to us by the extraordinary enthusiasm and initiative
