Sir Murray MacLehose, G.B.E., K.C.M.G., K.C.V.O.,
Sir,
Government House,
Hong Kong.
On the 29th July we had the honour to present to Your Excellency our petition concerning the old K.C.R. building. The issues included the proper planning of Tsim Sha Tsui peninsula, planning and decision-making in Government, and the degree of isolation of the man-in-the-street from
these matters.
It is realised that our petition was complex, with many aspects requiring technical consultation. May we draw your attention to paragraph 4, in which we requested an audience in order to explain the issues. The petition gives but an outline and is a springboard for discussion which we hope will lead to a proper study of the pressing considerations which all uniquely and conveniently arise for solution at the same time. These are:-
the proposed oultural complex;
1).
the proposed re-conneotion of the K.C.R. line and the need for Consultants to be briefed;
2).
3).
the proposed construction of a bus/transport terminus;
4).
the preservation of the old K.C.R. and old Marine Police Station on top of its wooded hill;
5).
the need for a new exhibition or trade hall.
We therefore reiterate our request for an interview with Your
Excellency before any decision is reached to discuss with Your Excellency the evidence supporting our statement and reasons.
