來迦檔號 YOUR REF.:

GOVERNMENT SECRETARIAT

LOWER ALBERT ROAD

HONG KONG

27th February 1978

The Hong Kong. Heritage Society,

52 Wellington Street,

10th floor,

Hong Kong.

Dear Sirs,

His Excellency the Governor has directed me to reply to your letter to him of 1st February 1978 in the following terms.

2.

Your letter covers very largely the same ground as was covered in your earlier petition to His Excellency dated 29th July 1977. His Excellency considers that there is nothing in it which would justify his departing from the advice of the Executive Council, namely that it is in the overall public interest to proceed as rapidly as possible with the construction of the Tsim Sha Tsui Cultural Complex, on the basis of plans now in preparation in the Public Works Department, and that the main building of the Tsim Sha Tsui Station should not be preserved.

3.

His Excellency has, moreover, requested me to inform you that he does not consider that it would serve the public interest to delay the demolition further.

4.

It is for your Society to decide whether or not it wishes to petition Her Majesty the Queen.

Yours faithfully,

(D.J.C. Jones)

Secretary for the Environment
