(e) the Governor's public statement published

on 24th May 1977, which said that "the

clocktower itself should be retained for

the time being, and maintained at the

Government's expense", has been well-received

by the community at large;

the existing Town Planning Ordinance, which

requires all outline zoning plans to be

gazetted and published for general information,

provides a useful channel of communication

to enable members of the public to object

and comment on the Hong Kong Government's town

planning intentions.

In the circumstances, the Secretary of State

has advised Her Majesty not to intervene in the decision

made by the Governor in Council that the former Kowloon-

Canton Railway Station building should be demolished.
