BRITISH RAILWAYS MISSION TO CHINA
The British Railways Delegation has completed discussions in Peking with the Ministry of Railways of The People's Republic of China. In the course of their stay they were received by the Vice Premier of the State Council, Mr Kang Shih-En as well as by the Minister of Railways, Mr Tuan Chun-Yi and the Vice Minister, Mr Wang Hsiao-Pin. Throughout their stay in China, the delegation was treated with exceptional hospitality by their Chinese hosts.
The delegation held several days of talks with technical and administrative personnel of the Ministry of Railways on subjects ranging from the modernisation of trunk lines for high speed passenger and freight operation to the continuous movement of bulk freight and
a number of other aspects of railway technolog and operation.
At
the conclusion of the discussions, both sides expressed the wish to pursue cooperation on the following points:-

1) that further arrangements will be made for a number of
Chinese technicians to spend periods of study at British
Railways Technical Centre, Derby, England.
2) that further exchanges of senior study missions will take place.
13) that British Railways, at the request of the Ministry of
Railways, will make outline proposals on the modernisation of the railway line from Shumchun to Kwangchow (Canton).
