The Brussels 7900-series cars are built by the Belgian

manufacturer Constructions Ferroviaires et Metalliques (formerly La Brugeoise et Nivelles) and are based on the

American PCC design. Whereas most modern articulated cars

use monomotor bogies at each end, with unpowered bogies under

the articulations, the Brussels car utilises two smaller

motors on each bogie including those under the articulations. (Monomotor bogies are claimed to offer improved adhesion.) Although used in the pre-metro tunnels in Brussels, the car is very narrow (2.2m) and is not capable in its present form of multiple unit operation. However the car has good acceleration and grade climbing abilities.

None of the three cars shown is air conditioned.

However,

the provision of air-conditioning on a light rail vehicle

is not likely to present substantial technical problems;

air conditioned LRV's are currently in operation in Boston,

Dusseldorf and Mannheim.
