Bryan Cartledge wrote to you on 25 July to say that the Prime Minister would not be able to see Sir Lawrence during his current visit to London. Sir Lawrence has, however, written to the Prime Minister, and a copy of his letter of 9 August is enclosed. I expect that the Prime Minister will wish to reply personally to this letter, but it is of course now unlikely that he will be able to do so before Sir Lawrence leaves the country again.
Could you please let me have a suitable draft by 16 August?
I am copying this letter and its
enclosure to Martyn Baker (Department of Trade) and Kieran Prendergast (FCO).
