Dear Baring
HONG KONG COINAGE
Thank you for your letter of 2 May about the sale of Hong Kong gold coins in the UK.
IMG's current policy prohibits the importation of modern gold coin and prohibits the manufacture here of gold coins for sale to UK residents. The Royal Mint may, therefore, only mint gold coins for Hong Kong on the basis that they are exported to Hong Kong for issue and none may be sold to UK residents.
This question is frequently reviewed and if there is any relaxation of this policy we will immediately let you know.
