Hong Kong Coinage
Upton's letter of 5th July, 1977, gave approval for the issue of a Proclamation making the new fifty cent coin legal tender. I now enclose a draft Proclamation, the issue of which would make the new one dollar piece legal tender, and I would be grateful if you could obtain the approval of the Commissioners of Her Majesty's Treasury and the Secretary of State for its issue under section 4 of the Hong Kong (Coinage) Order 1936 as amended by the Hong Kong (Coinage) (Amendment) Order 1975.
It is intended that 14th August would be the date on which the coin would be legal tender and this is the date that has been inserted in paragraph 4 of the draft Proclamation. We would, however, like to issue the Proclamation at least two weeks before that date and I would be grateful if the necessary consents could be obtained by then.
