Please refer to your letter (65) in EF133c of 10 July about the de-monetisation of the 50c coin (1951).
2. We have consulted our Legal Advisers who agree with the opinion sent with your letter. We have therefore approached the Treasury and the concensus of opinion is that the only way out of this peculiar situation is to issue a new Order in Council which would specifically provide authority for the de-monetisation of the 50c coin. The Treasury have now set this in hand as a matter of urgency and I will keep you informed of developments.
