It was agreed that these matters would be raised during the forthcoming consultations with Spain.
(c) Portugal
The Commission representative informed the Committee
that work on a multiannual arrangement would commence in Lisbon on 20 October.
(a) Greece
(i) The Commission representative briefed the Committee on the outcome of the technical meeting held in Athens from 16 to 18 October 1978.
That meeting had made it possible to establish the size of the provisional balances (as at
21 September 1978) for Greek export openings in the Community. The Greek authorities had undertaken not to issue export licences for quantities greater than these provisional amounts until the final balances had been
established.
(ii) Talks on a multiannual arrangement were to commence at
the beginning of November.
(e) Turkey.
(i) The Commission representative said that at the meeting
of the EEC-Turkey Association Committee on 18 October it had seemed to him that the Turkish authorities were
reluctant to enter into negotiations with the Community on a multiannual arrangement, in view of the safeguard measures which the Community had recently applied to Turkish exports of cotton yarn.
