The Commission representative also stated that any cases in which the quantitative limits were exceeded would be taken into account in the burden-sharing for the following years
(ii) The United Kingdom representative emphasized the
gravity of the situation on the United Kingdom market; he also recalled that the problem had already been raised by the United Kingdom delegation in May, and that despite the assurances given by the Commission at the Council meeting in July no solution had been
found.
Accordingly, the United Kingdom representative was obliged to uphold his request for application of safeguard measures.
(iii) The Belgian and Netherlands delegations referred to the
difficulties created on the BENELUX market by Maltese
exports of trousers in category 6.
(iv) The Italian delegation said that its authorities

considered the problem of Maltese exports to be of major importance and they reserved the right to raise this question at political level.
(i) The Commission representative said that informal talks
would be held in Geneva on 27 October on the occasion of the meeting of the GATT Textiles Committee, with a view to working out the broad lines of a multiannual
arrangement.
(ii) The Italian delegation spoke of very serious difficulties
concerning products in category 64 and requested an increase in its share for products in category 31.
