1 This started 1 hr.50minslate to the embarrassment of the Commission and the chagrin of the UK and, (later), the Hong Kong delegations. The UK, Germany, Belgium and the Netherlands were the only M/S delegations present (Belgium part-time).

2 The Commission was optimistic about agreement on the definitions for occupational clothing, tracksuits and trousers. provided figures for blousons which enabled a Community line to be drawn up.

The UK reminded the Commission that we wished our Category 16 (suits) quotas to be reduced in respect of the change in classification of ski suits. Giannini (Cmssn.) doubted whether it was a change in classification.

The UK said that. in view

of Hong Kong's request for additional access for Category 6 (trousers) which had not been granted, we would allow Hong Kong to transfer the quantity of 'working' jeans under dispute to Category 6. We still maintained that our classification was correct but this was to be done solely on economic grounds.
