We have been informed by the trade of the following
two cases of textile shipments being held up.
France

Category 5
The French Customs at Marseilles have held up a shipment of 13,075 pieces of knitted pullovers exported from Hong Kong against Category 5 quotas on 14 November per SS Korrigan under Export Licence Nos 552532, 552534 and 552546. The consignee is Cactus Sarl of 30-32 rue Neure des Boulets, 75011 Paris. A French official, Miss Boudefoy, has been quoted as saying that Hong Kong has exhausted its Category 5 quotas of 189,000 pieces, and that if the shipment in question was accepted, the restraint limit would be exceeded by 6,000 pieces.

The maximum level to which Hong Kong may export to France in Category 5 after invoking the provisions of 3.5% swing and 5% anticipation is 205,065 pieces. According to our records, licensed shipment of Category 5 for France as at 1 December is 195,178 pieces or 95.2% of the Maximum Export Level.

The Dutch Customs at Amsterdam have held up two shipments of a total of 2,514 pieces of woven shirts exported from Hong Kong' against Category 8 quotas. The shipments were` exported on 29 November per Martin Air flight N° DP 242 and ss Jutlandia under Export Licences 513536 and 512734 respectively
According to the Dutch and consigned to A Van der Smaal.
importers, the reason given by the Dutch Customs is that Hong Kong's Category 8 quotas have been fully utilised this year.
