POLITICAL CLEARANCE
FOR ADVENTURE TRAINING EXPEDITIONS TO SARAWAK
Reference:
A. MODUK ARMY RBE/LDF 021010Z JUN 77
B.
AGAI Chapter 11 Appendix 1 to Annex C/11 Para 4.
1.
Reference A was confirmation of the Malaysian Federal Government's refusal to allow Military participation in an RGS expedition to SARAWAK. Reference B confirms a general unwillingness by Malaysia to accept expeditions.
2.. Although aware of the difficulties, units in this Command continue to enthus- iastically explore the possibility of mounting expeditions from Brunei to Sarawak and in particular to Mount Kinabalu. Such expeditions would be simple to mount and offer a very worthwhile outlet for Hong Kong units who frequently train in Brunei.
3. Is there any indication of change in the political climate which might allow expeditions to take place in future and would it be worthwhile to prepare a special case to put to the Malaysian authorities to cover expeditions mounted from Brunei? Your views would be appreciated.
