REINFORCEMENT OF HONG KONG WITH THE BRUNEI BATTALION
BY CHARTERED CIVIL AIRCRAFT
INTRODUCTION
The reinforcement plan provides for the deployment of the Brunei battalion to Hong Kong by either:

a. RAF transport aircraft which are in the area and can be diverted for the task, or which would be despatched from the United Kingdom (UK) for this purpose.
b. Civil aircraft chartered in Brunei or Hong Kong.
Commander British Forces Hong Kong has prepared an outline contingency plan for the reinforcement of Hong Kong with the Brunei battalion by chartered civil aircraft from Cathay Pacific Airways (CPA). The advantages of using chartered civil aircraft are:

The move could be quickly completed.
Maximum RAF aircraft would remain available to speed the arrival of the UK based reinforcements.

The reinforcement could be executed under local control.

GENERAL OUTLINE OF THE PLAN
Depending on availability and the current deployment of its fleet, CPA will provide one or more of the following aircraft, or a combination of the two:
a. Lockheed 1011 Tristar 264 passengers and 16000 lb freight.

Boeing 707 - 154 passengers and 8000 lb freight.
TIMINGS
CPA has the ability to position the first aircraft on the ground and ready for loading at Brunei International Airport within 12 hours of receipt of a request from Headquarters British Forces (HQBF) Hong Kong to activate the airlift, and to have completed the task within 24 hours of activation,
PREPARATION
5. Chalks. For the purpose of this move, the Brunei battalion would be divided into 7 chalks each consisting of 126 passengers and 4000 lb freight. A Tristar will be taken as being capable of lifting 2 chalks and a Boeing 707 of lifting one chalk.
