REINFORCEMENT OF HONG KONG
JOINT THEATRE PLAN NO 30 (FOURTH REVISE)
INTRODUCTION
Present evidence confirms that the Chinese Government wishes to maintain the status quo in Hong Kong. The main threat to the Hong Kong garrison is internal security (IS) diaturbances. These disturbances could be complicated by the influx of large numbers of refugees from mainland China, or attacks from armed dissidents from across the border,

To meet these threats the following reinforcements might be required:

Two infantry battalions.
Royal Air Force Regiment Field Squadron and individual reinforcements to support RAF Hong Kong.
C. Data telegraphists, to assist in manning the secure joint teleprinter network.

Personnel to reinforce explosive ordnance disposal facilities.
Individual Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineer (REME) reinforcements.
f. Elements on call' (see paras 6 and 8).
It may also be necessary to reinforce Hong Kong with Service personnel to maintain essential services should civil labour be withdrawn; this contingency is covered by Joint Theatre Plan No 68, which can be implemented in whole or part.
