Comment: Bearing in mind the life of the replacement vessels and the fact that they will be required for many years, it would seem to be prudent not to reduce the number of vessels below the existing five.
Two alternative gun systems are under consideration. Comments: The choice rests between a naval version of the 105mm tank gun or a 57mm Bofors gun. The decision will rest with the RN, but provided the development of the former can be undertaken in time it appears preferable (and likely to be cheaper) than the latter.
