The following assumptions have been made in assessing crew availability:
a. The full complement is required during LSP's.
b. Leave can be taken by some personnel during BMPs and longer maintenance
periods.

On the basis that it will be possible to grant half the Bank/Public holidays and
half the longer leaves during BMP, or other extended maintenance periods, the above figures equate to an additional 95 non-operational days/year for the craft/complement.
39. In conjunction with craft non-operational days (95) this gives an overall peacetime Availability of approximately 48% ie (365-95-95) x 100 = 47.94%)

On this basis a nominal force of 4.2 vessels ie (2 x 100) would be required to
48 ensure that 2 craft are available for peacetime patrols. Again, in practical
terms, this indicates a requirement for a Squadron strength of 5 vessels.
40. As with the previous calculation, the figures makes no allowance for breakdown
non-operational periods (Reliability), however, it is considered that a force of 5 vessels would provide sufficient margin to meet this eventuality for peacetime operations DFM to confirm and advise suitable Reliability targets for Part J. The occasional requirement for a third craft during peacetime operations (paragraph 20),
can be met with five vessels at some sacrifice to short term crew rest periods
or craft maintenance (LSPs).
41. On the basis of the above arguments, a procurement programme for 5 replacement Patrol Craft is proposed.

43. The Craft will be maintained with the same facilities as their predecessors.
In view of the advanced weapons and communication fit, some enhancement of the Weapon Engineering capability may be required/DFM to quantify.
